In a short interview with Basketball Sphere, Aleksa Avramovic talked about the obligations that lie ahead of him and his teammates at the upcoming FIBA World Cup 2023.
Aleksa Avramovic is one of the players on Svetislav Pesic‘s passenger list for Asia. He is expected to play an important role in Serbia at the upcoming tournament.
At the beginning of the conversation with Basketball Sphere, he talked about the atmosphere in the team, and revealed how it feels to be part of the national team.
“The atmosphere in the national team is always great”
“It feels great. It’s always nice to be part of the national team. I look forward to every new gathering and practice. Preparations are going well. I feel proud when I play for Serbia. It is nice to see friends from whom I’ve been separated during the year. The atmosphere is always great and we all hang out.
Everyone spends their free time in different ways. They are mostly board games that we play together. However, there is not much room for that. There is a lot of practice in the preparatory period, a lot of information, so there is not much free time.”
Debut on the big stage
The Serbian guard has a great season behind him. With Partizan, he won the ABA league and played in the EuroLeague play-offs. Due to the injury he suffered last summer, Avramovic missed Eurobasket, so FIBA World Cup 2023 will be his first major competition in which he will play for the national team.
“Okay, injuries happen. I had that fall that caused a broken hand. It’s a mechanical thing. It’s something that happened and I can’t regret anything. Let’s move on, I hope that in the future I will be healthy and that I will be able to play in one of the big competitions.”
Goals and expectations
Serbia has been waiting for a medal from major competitions for six years, considering that they won the last one at the Eurobasket in 2017. At the end of the conversation, Avramovic revealed Serbia’s goals for the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
“Serbia’s goal is to qualify for the Olympic Games and to fight for a medal. To be one of the contenders. We are going to give the maximum and whatever we produce at that moment will be our range. We will try our best to prepare and make Serbia and all Serbs happy.” – concluded Avramovic.
