Aleksandar Djordjevic, Serbian coach and head coach of the Chinese national team, spoke to “Eurohoops” about his period at Fenerbahce, Ettore Messina and many other interesting things.
The target of criticism is coach Ettore Messina, but that clearly doesn’t affect the club’s management in the ‘fashion city.’ He received a contract extension until 2026, and among the players who publicly criticized him was Mike James, a member of Monaco. This didn’t sit well with the Serbian coach, who expressed a clear stance on the entire situation in Milano.
“Mike James no longer plays for him. I would tell the players to be smarter and sometimes keep certain things to themselves. We’re talking about Messina, one of the best coaches ever. I am one hundred percent sure that he will find a way to get back on the winning track. I don’t like it when players stick their noses where they don’t belong. Things don’t work that way,” said Aleksandar Djordjevic.
Djordjevic continued:
“This is their decision, I accepted personally before we started to work, one demand of their president Mr. Ali Koc that if we dont qualify for the Final Four or for the playoffs of EuroLeague – my contract was for 3 years but they can finish it right there. Even though i didn’t make the team, i didn’t choose any of the players, i came after it. I only know that with every and each player we are going to hug as hard as we can once we see each other and that’s the best i can leave after my job, and i’m not saying this as a polemic – that’s just the world of coaching” concluded Djordjevic.
