Aleksandar Dzikic has been appointed as the new head coach of the Georgian national team after parting ways with Hapoel Jerusalem.
The Serbian coach will serve as the national team coach according to the contract until 2025, facing main challenges in the qualifications for the Olympic Games and the European Championship. If he successfully navigates these challenges, the contract is likely to be extended.
Aleksandar Dzikic will face off against Serbia in the European Championship qualifiers, as both national teams are in the same group (G), along with Finland and Denmark. The match between Georgia and Serbia is scheduled for February 26 in Tbilisi.
It’s worth noting that Dzikic is not the first Serbian to coach Georgia, as Igor Kokoskov held that position from 2008 to 2015.
The former head coach of Partizan had previously been a target for Georgia, but the executives of Hapoel Jerusalem did not allow him to work with the national team, ensuring he remained fully focused on the challenges with the Israeli team.
As a reminder, the Serbian expert left the helm of Hapoel Jerusalem for personal reasons, likely influenced by the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
