The head coach of the Georgian national team, Aleksandar Dzikic, spoke after the match against the Philippines in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Aleksandar Dzikic did not manage to make it to the next stage with his team, which required a win of at least 19 points over the opponent.
“We won, that’s a good thing, but this was an impossible mission. We opened the game very well, took a 16:0 lead, but then conceded 94 points. It’s too much. We didn’t play that bad against the zone, although our defense wasn’t at the highest level and that’s an individual focus. We should continue to work on that. I am proud of our players, I love them. Am I satisfied? No, I can do better,” said Aleksandar Dzikic.
Tornike Shengelia missed the duel against Latvia, but not this match, despite not being at 100 percent.
“Our best player played a game he shouldn’t have played. He asked to play. In the end he wanted to play even more, but I didn’t let him. Its influence is deeper than people understand. It is very important for him to be a leader. What he did today was something not many would do. I have the utmost respect for him. He wanted to play more. He’s probably angry with me, but I told him – Toko (Tornike), it’s enough…”
He then tried to detect the causes of the elimination.
“We are better than the difference against Latvia shows. We will not be super stupid to say that we are better than them. We saw a very interesting match between the Philippines and Latvia and maybe today we were too good too early, because we don’t have experience,” Aleksandar Dzikic said.
