The former Partizan player, Alen Smailagic, will wear the jersey of Zalgiris in the coming period, it has been officially confirmed.
Smailagic committed to cooperation with the Lithuanian team with the “one plus one” option, so at least in the next season he will be part of Andrea Trinchieri’s team.
“I am very happy that I became a part of Zalgiris. I’m really looking forward to fighting, winning and meeting the fans, I’m looking forward to joining the team,” Smailagic told the official website.
Sports director of Zalgiris Gediminas Navickas described why the power forward was hired.
“After the departure of Roland Smits, we needed a player like Alen. He can extend the court, shoot from a distance, and is combative under the baskets. He is a player with good character and good skills, the coaches will definitely be able to use him,” Navickas.
Smailagic averaged 5.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in the EuroLeague. More was expected from him, especially after the great season before last, but the impression was that the infection he had last year also affected his games.
