Alberto Diaz has been the number one topic in recent days in Spain, and it seems that his injury situation is increasingly uncertain.
Spain has no luck with point guards this summer. Head coach Sergio Scariolo was first without Lorenzo Brown, and then problems arose with Ricky Rubio. We remind you that the experienced NBA basketball player will not be part of the team at the FIBA World Cup due to mental health problems. This put Spain in a very awkward position.
The mentioned duo was supposed to lead the national team, but Scariolo had to look for alternatives. As he himself pointed out, the role of point guards had to be taken over by Alberto Diaz and Juan Nunez. However, this was not the end of the problems for the Spanish team.

In the game against Canada, another big problem came up for Spain. After the duel with Melvin Ejim, Diaz stayed on the floor and left the game during the second half. He underwent a series of thorough tests at a Granada hospital to accurately assess his knee injury’s severity and it was found that he hyperextended the knee.
The extent of Diaz’s injury remains uncertain. His condition now is described as “pending developments,” as per the Spanish Basketball Federation official announcement. According to latest informations, he won’t be avaliable for next match against Dominican Republic, which is the last preparation match for Spain before FIBA World Cup.
