Asvel secured their ninth win in the LNB Pro A after defeating Bourg with a score of 80:74 on the road.
Since Gianmarco Pozzecco took over the team from Villeurbanne, they have a record of 6-5 in all competitions. More importantly, they are playing much more organized basketball.
This was evident in the game, even though they were without the still-injured Nando De Colo.
Asvel consistently found holes in the visitors’ defense right from the start, as they did not begin the game defensively well. They conceded 23 points, and the French vice-champions had a +7 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Asvel’s lead continued to grow during the second period, reaching +12. However, the hosts managed to narrow the gap, and the halftime score was 33:42.
After the break, Bourg played basketball reminiscent of their performance in the first part of the season. Through patient attacks, they won the third quarter 25:20, closing in to just a four-point deficit.
Despite playing two overtimes against Bayern last Thursday, Pozzecco’s team found the strength to resist the home team’s pushes in the final quarter.
The most efficient player for Asvel was Mike Scott with 14 points, while Isiaha Mike scored 21 for Bourg.
