Olympiacos won the first game of the Greek Basket League finals series against Panathinaikos in the OAKA Arena by 89:84.
Alec Peters had a great start in the OAKA Arena, giving Olympiacos an early lead of 13:5. Following that, Kostas Sloukas responded and reduced his team’s deficit to just two points by the end of the first quarter.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Dinos Mitoglou showcased excellent play, leading Panathinaikos to a comeback (31:29). With a 15:3 run on the other side, Olympiacos regained the lead – 40:31. Panathinaikos couldn’t mount a proper response by the end of the half, which Olympiacos capitalized on to secure a lead – 46:37.
In the third period, Thomas Walkup delivered an outstanding performance, and with the help of Nigel Williams-Goss, gave Olympiacos a double-digit lead heading into the crucial final 10 minutes (66:56). For the home team, Juancho Hernangomez and Kendrick Nunn played the best.
At a certain point in the fourth quarter, Panathinaikos managed to cut the deficit to single digits, getting as close as three points behind. However, Olympiacos successfully fended off their opponent’s surge and secured an important win in the OAKA Arena.
Also in the fourth quarter, Ergin Ataman was ejected after he received his second tehnical foul.
