Australia is aiming to reclaim a medal at the Paris Olympics, now led by NBA players, including Dante Exum.
Three years ago in Tokyo, the “Boomers” managed to secure a bronze medal. They defeated Slovenia, led by Luka Doncic. The goal remains the same – a medal, especially after their disappointing performance at the FIBA World Cup, where they failed to reach the quarterfinals.
The team currently resembles the one from Okinawa. The preliminary roster includes 17 names ahead of the training camp starting next month, with the following players listed:
Josh Giddey, Joe Ingles, Patty Mills, Matisse Thybulle, Jock Landale, Josh Green, Doup Reath, Dante Exum, Dyson Daniels, Jack White, Matthew Dellavedova, Chris Goulding, Nick Kay, Will Magnay, Dejan Vasiljevic, Jack McVeigh, Xavier Cooks.
Brian Goorjian has once again left out Ben Simmons. The first test will be against China, followed by games against Serbia and the United States in Abu Dhabi. Australia is in Group A at the Olympics. They will face Canada and the winners of the qualifying tournaments in Valencia and Piraeus.
