Barcelona, following their away win against Partizan in the fourth round of the EuroLeague, hosted Bayern Munich on the Blaugrana court. They recorded their fourth win in as many matches, this time by 98-59.
The game started brilliantly with Jan Vesely and Tomas Satoransky leading the way. After Nicolas Laprovittola hit a three-pointer, the scoreboard showed 13-2. Bayern struggled to find effective ways to respond to Barcelona’s attacks, leading to an increasing point difference in favor of the Catalan team. Alex Abrines also made a three-pointer, followed by Willy Hernangomez, and Barcelona led 27-11 after the first ten minutes.
Serge Ibaka created a 6-0 mini-run in three consecutive attacks at the start of the second quarter, but Jabari Parker and the aforementioned Satoransky with two consecutive three-pointers brought things back to square one. Then we saw a few minutes of ‘struggle’ on both ends, where neither team managed to score. Barcelona, however, maintained their lead without much trouble, and by the end of the first half, they reestablished a 16-point advantage, leading 43-27.”
In the third quarter, Bayern continued to struggle on both ends of the court, and Barcelona knew how to capitalize on it. Jabari Parker and Hernangomez found their rhythm, resulting in an even larger lead for the Catalans. The squad led by Roger Grimau from the bench created a 15-0 run, marking the first time in the game that the point difference exceeded 30 points. The score was 70-40 at the start of the final ten minutes.
The outcome of the game was never in doubt. All of Barcelona’s players took the opportunity to further exploit their already weakened opponent. The only unknown was the final score by which Barcelona would secure their fourth EuroLeague victory of the season. After defeating Efes, Olympiacos, and Partizan, Bayern also fell.
Jabari Parker was the top scorer for Barcelona with 15 points, Jan Vesely added 14, and it’s worth mentioning that all players of the Catalan giants made it onto the scoresheet. The only player who found his rhythm on the other side was Serge Ibaka with 13 points.
Barcelona will face Madrid’s Real in the next round of the EuroLeague for another ‘El Clasico,’ while Bayern will host Fenerbahce.
