BC Wolves will relocate its headquarters and play in the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, starting from the next season.
The club, which has ambitious goals, is moving to the Asian continent. This was announced by the Dubai Media Office. They also added that all the games in the EuroCup for the next season will be played in one of the most glamorous cities in the world.
This move isn’t particularly surprising since the owner of the ‘Wolves,’ Gediminas Ziemelis, lives and works in Dubai. He is considered to be the wealthiest Lithuanian and founded the team last year.
In their first season, they played in the domestic Lithuanian basketball league. They also participated in the qualifications for the FIBA Europe Cup but failed to secure a spot in that competition. Additionally, they played in the European Northern League.
Before the start of the new season, the club attracted investors from the NBA. Jonas Valanciunas invested in the club. BC Wolves has not yet made a public statement regarding the move to Dubai. It is seen as a move for the future.
Paulius Motiejunas, the EuroLeague CEO, stated that the move to Dubai is possible but that certain things need to be coordinated.
“I think we’ll go there; the issue is the calendar we’re constantly discussing. And, of course, we need to align that with the national team calendar,” Motiejunas emphasized.
