Besiktas convincingly defeated Prometey by 92-70 on their home court, in the derby of the second round of the Eurocup.
The Istanbul-based team displayed surprisingly strong offensive performance, considering their previous matches were mainly decided through aggressive and solid defense. This performance is likely to please Serbian coach Dusan Alimpijevic, who has now led his team to two consecutive wins in the competition.
All of this is noteworthy, especially considering their challenging schedule, as they faced Joventut in Badalona in the first round.
In the first quarter, the game was evenly matched, but the home team, Besiktas, began to dominate in the second quarter. Alimpijevic’s team scored 26 points and secured a double-digit lead.
The trend continued in the following quarters, maintaining the high pace and securing another victory. The standout performers were Yigit Arslan with 24 points and Jonah Matthews with 22 points. Tai Odiase was the top scorer for the losing team with 16 points.
In the next round, Besiktas will face Cedevita Olimpija, while Prometey will take on London Lions.
Before that, Lietkabelis outplayed Aris by 84-74, in a game where the winner was determined by the outstanding fourth quarter performance of the Lithuanian team.
Deividas Sirvydis scored 22 points, Gediminas Orelik added 19. Serbian international Nikola Popovic had a notable performance with 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Vasileious Toliopoulos led the defeated team with 19 points.
Lietkabelis will face Ulm in the next round, while Aris will host Turk Telekom.
