Martin Hermannsson, the playmaker for Spanish club Valencia, will need to undergo knee surgery. The club has confirmed this news.
The Icelandic player missed several friendly matches that the Spanish club played over the weekend in Galicia. The reason for his absence in those matches was knee pain.
Lately, Hermannsson has been unlucky with injuries. Last year, he tore ligaments in his knee during a playoff game against Baskonia in the ACB league. Despite that, he signed a new two-year contract with the Spanish club that same year.
In the previous season, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.8 assists, and 1.7 rebounds in 27 games played in the ACB league. He has been a member of Valencia since 2020.
He began his career in Iceland, specifically with the team KR. He then had stints in France, playing for Reims and Charleville. He later joined Alba Berlin, where he proved to be a valuable addition. During this period, he was named the Icelandic Basketball Player of the Year five times consecutively.
His contract is set to expire in June next year, and the question remains when he will return to the court. This summer, Valencia signed several new players, including Brandon Davies, Boubacar Toure, Semi Ojeleye, Damien Inglis, Nathan Reuvers, and Kassius Robertson.
