Bogdan Bogdanovic singled himself at the top of the all-time Mundobasket list by making a three-point shot in the first semifinal of the FIBA World Cup. The captain of Serbia managed to score a three-point in 24 games in a row at the World Cup.
His long-range shot went through the hoop already in the first quarter. In this way, he left behind the former New Zealand national team player, Kirk Penney. Penney has made at least one three-pointer in 23 consecutive games. That streak was tied by Bogdan Bogdanovic against Lithuania, and now he is in first place on the all-time list according to that statistical parameter.
It is worth noting that these statistics have been kept since 1994, which does not in the least diminish the success of the Serbian national team player.
The captain of Serbia is in an extremely good mood playing the last three major competitions in the NT team jersey. At the championship of the Old Continent in 2017, he led Serbia to silver with an average of 20.4 points per game.
He raised the bar four years ago in China when he was the best scorer in Mundobasket. Then he scored a total of 183 points, one more than the Australian, Patty Mills. In addition, he recorded 22.4 points per game, and before this game with Canada, he was at 18.8 in the current World Championship.
If he were to raise his average to over 20 points against Canada and in one more remaining game, be it the final or the match for third place, he would once again become a part of history. Namely, only Oscar Schmidt, Andrew Gaze, Dirk Nowitzki and Yao Ming recorded more than 20 points per game in two consecutive world championships.
The impressive Brazilian is the best scorer in the history of Mundobasket, and he averaged 20 points three times in a row when the FIBA World Cup is the topic of conversation.
