Bogdan Bogdanovic, the Serbian player, was awarded the prestigious ‘Sekou Smith Award’ by the Atlanta Hawks.
This award recognizes the player who best represents himself and the NBA franchise with professionalism and integrity in media interactions.
Bogdan Bogdanovic was selected through voting by a panel of local media members. The award was presented to him before the game against the Miami Heat, and members of the Smith family were present.
“Bogi is a true professional, and that extends to his collaboration with the media. He is always cooperative and honest with the media throughout the season and is very deserving among many strong candidates on the list,” said Jon Steinberg, the Vice President for Basketball Communications at the Hawks.
In addition to the award, the Hawks named the media workroom at StateFarm Arena after Smith in 2021, redesigning the space in his honor. The team also launched the annual Hawks-NBA Summer League practice in Smith’s name in 2021.
Smith worked as a journalist covering the AJC Hawks from 2005 to 2009 before joining NBA Digital as a multimedia reporter and analyst.
