American small forward Bonzie Colson was presented as a new reinforcement of Fenerbahce, the club from Istanbul officially announced.
Colson arrives in Turkey on a “two plus one” contract as one of the best in Europe in his position, having established himself in that role at Maccabi Tel Aviv.
It was not realistic for the Israeli team to keep one of the best players, mostly because of the uncertain financial situation due to the state of war in the country.
It is expected that his former teammate, Wade Baldwin, will also follow his path, so Fenerbahce could get a very high-quality tandem in the future. In this way, the composition of Sarunas Jasikevicius would be even better.
Maybe those moves could be a turning point when it comes to advancing in the EuroLeague, since Fenerbahce played in the semifinals of the Final Four in the previous season. Now it is clear that with a team like this they aim for the trophy.
Colson averaged 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in the elite competition last season in Maccabi Tel Aviv. Then Oded Kattash’s team put up a big fight against Panathinaikos in the playoffs but could do no more than that.
