Kristaps Porzingis, pivotal during the Boston Celtics’ recent playoff run, has undergone surgery to address injuries sustained, with his return anticipated to be delayed beyond the start of the upcoming NBA season.
Boston Celtics management disclosed on Thursday that Kristaps Porzingis underwent surgical procedures to repair a torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon. Standing tall at 7 feet 3 inches, the center faces a rehabilitation period lasting at least five months.
With the 2024-25 NBA season set to commence in four months, the Celtics foresee Porzingis beginning the season on the sidelines.
During his debut season with Boston, Porzingis demonstrated his impact with averages of 20.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Despite battling a calf injury that sidelined him for most of the playoffs, he returned valiantly for the NBA Finals. However, his participation was marred by a subsequent leg injury during Game 2, leading to him missing several games before his return in Game 5.
Celtics’ head coach Joe Mazzulla expressed concern over Porzingis’ decision to play in Game 5 against medical advice, where his limited performance underscored his compromised physical condition.
Given Porzingis’ history of recurrent injuries, the Celtics are expected to adopt a cautious approach to his rehabilitation process.
