Bronny James, after making a notable NBA debut alongside his father LeBron James, is slated to spend a significant portion of his rookie season in the G League.
Securing his immediate future with the Lakers, the 19-year-old guard signed a four-year contract with the franchise after being selected 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. Despite considerable debate surrounding his potential, Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that Bronny will primarily develop in the G League, following his early-season appearance with the Lakers.
“The Lakers’ plan is for him to predominantly play in the G League, which is typical for most 19-year-old second-round picks entering the league,” Wojnarowski noted. “You’ll likely see Bronny James on the court alongside his father in a significant moment during the first week of the season, though it won’t signify regular rotation status.”
Wojnarowski also confirmed that the Lakers intend to create a memorable marketing moment by having LeBron James and Bronny James share the floor—the first active father-son duo in league history—an achievement unlikely to be replicated anytime soon.
Bronny’s path reflects his status as a raw prospect needing development before potentially earning a consistent NBA role. The G League represents a crucial developmental phase, offering him the opportunity to refine his skills with an eye towards future rotations.
Entering the league amidst heightened scrutiny due to his draft position and familial ties, Bronny acknowledged the amplified pressure during his introductory press conference.
“There’s definitely more pressure, especially with all the talk on social media questioning my readiness,” Bronny acknowledged. “But I’ve grown up dealing with this kind of scrutiny, so I’m prepared to handle it.”
