Bryce James, the middle child of LeBron James, appeared on an Instagram Live broadcast this week after his older brother Bronny was drafted.
During the broadcast, Bryce addressed a question from a commenter about whether he thought LeBron James would still be playing in the NBA long enough to be his teammate:
“Wait until I get drafted? Nah, that’s too much. No. Good luck … He gonna be 42, bro,” Bryce James replied.

Bryce James, a 17-year-old shooting guard standing at 6-foot-6, has generated considerable buzz with many speculating he could surpass his brother Bronny, given his impressive highlights. As he approaches his senior year of high school and potential draft eligibility in 2026, Bryce recently hinted at his father LeBron’s future in the NBA.
This remark suggests that Bryce doesn’t foresee LeBron continuing in the NBA by the time he enters the league. LeBron, a four-time NBA champion and current unrestricted free agent, has various options this offseason. However, it appears likely that any new contract he signs could be for just two years before retirement.
LeBron previously fulfilled his dream of playing on the same NBA team as Bronny, and while he once hinted at doing the same with Bryce, who will be draft-eligible in two years, Bryce’s comments indicate skepticism due to LeBron potentially being 42 years old by then, nearing his 24th NBA season.
Bronny James was selected as the 55th pick in the NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, and he will play alongside his father LeBron James.
This will be the first time in the NBA’s history books that a father and son will be part of the same team in the highest-quality competition on the planet.
