Andrew Wiggins will not be a part of Team Canada in this years Olympic Games due to a conflict with Golden State Warriors.
For the general manager of Canada, Rowan Barrett, everything was fine. But a couple a days ago he had a call that he could not decline.
“For us, Andrew Wiggins was fine. We were talking to him consistently, he’s been training for weeks and weeks getting ready for this. And then I got a call from Golden State Warriors a day or two before camp saying that they’re holding him out. So, from what I see, this is not an Andrew decision, this is from the team. And so, he won’t be with us,” said Barrett.
However, the Warriors wanted to respond to these claims and made a special remark to The Athletic, stating that Wiggins had an injury and that his decision to not join the camp was a “mutual” one between him and the Warriors.
The aforementioned injury was on Wiggins’s ankle towards the end of the 2023-24 season. It apparently still continues to trouble the player.
The first reports of Wiggins’s absence emerged yesterday. Canada’s preliminary roster was initially presented as a 20-man team.
