Cape Verde recorded their first historic victory at the FIBA World Cup, after defeating Venezuela with a score of 81:75.
In the first half, we saw two faces of both teams. In the first part, Cape Verde dominated the paint, while Venezuela had problems offensively. However, at the end of the quarter, he worked a shot for Fernando Duro’s team, who promptly returned to the match.
After the first 10 minutes, the situation on the field was reversed, and the African representative struggled with the realization, while Jhornan Zamora (3/4 for 3pt in the first half) and his friends continued with “burst fire” outside the line 6.75 for the lead 46:33 after 20 minutes of play.
The Africans did not give up and managed to get back into the match with a great game in the fourth quarter. In the last part, they allowed only nine points to the South African opponents, who duly missed outside the 6.75 line. This quarter was enough for Cape Verde’s first victory and Venezuela’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament.
The most effective member of the African team was Betinho Gomes with 22 points, while Will Tavares scored two less. Walter Tavares scored only 6 points, but grabbed 14 rebounds. For Venezuela, David Cubillan with 15 and Jhornan Zamora with 14 points.
