Before the Chicago Bulls traded Alex Caruso, Matt Moore of the Action Network revealed that the Bulls, among other teams, were interested in acquiring Clint Capela from the Atlanta Hawks.
Following the trade of All-Defensive guard Alex Caruso on Thursday, it’s anticipated that the Bulls will be very active in the trade market as the 2024 NBA Draft approaches.
Clint Capela, an NBA veteran with ten seasons under his belt, played his first six seasons with the Houston Rockets before being traded to the Hawks in 2020. He has been a dependable presence in the paint, averaging a double-double over the past seven seasons. In the 2023-24 season, Capela averaged 11.5 points per game, 10.6 rebounds per game, and 1.5 blocks per game over 73 games.
With backup center Andre Drummond expected to depart Chicago this offseason, the Bulls are in urgent need of a strong frontcourt presence. Aside from Nikola Vucevic and Drummond, the Bulls lack depth at the center position. Adama Sanogo saw limited court time, spending most of the season developing with the Windy City Bulls.
Capela would be an excellent addition, particularly as a backup big man, but his $22.2 million salary for the upcoming season presents a significant financial challenge for the Bulls.
Reports on Thursday indicated that the Bulls are in discussions with the Utah Jazz and Philadelphia 76ers regarding a potential Zach LaVine trade, which could create the financial flexibility needed to acquire a player like Capela.
