Chus Mateo spoke after the rescheduled match of the sixth round of the EuroLeague, where Maccabi Tel Aviv and Real Madrid faced off in Belgrade.
Real Madrid secured a win by 99:70. In his post-game statement, Chus Mateo analyzed the events on the court.
“We did a great job today, we played very seriously. We were focused throughout all 40 minutes. Maccabi Tel Aviv is a very good team. In the beginning, they punished our mistakes and were good in rebounding.
The second quarter was the one where we had a slightly poorer ball movement, but overall, we had good ball circulation. We only lost seven balls. Our offense was good, we found a way to solve the game, which wasn’t easy for us. I am very happy because we did a great job.”
The Spanish coach reflected on the significant handicap for Maccabi Tel Aviv due to not playing in front of their fans and touched on Carlos Alocen.
“The game would certainly have been more uncertain in front of the Maccabi Tel Aviv fans. They have great supporters who motivate and encourage the players even more. Carlos Alocen is doing well and will be in the lineup in the upcoming games.
He hasn’t played for 21 months, and we have to take it step by step with him. He will help us by relieving other players, and he will undoubtedly be an important player in the upcoming matches,” said Mateo.
