Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 96-85 in the King’s Cup final, securing another trophy.
Real Madrid had a better start to the game, creating a 9-0 run, but Barcelona quickly found their offensive rhythm and got back into the match (11-9). Chus Mateo’s team managed to maintain a two-possession lead until the last minute of the first quarter when Barcelona completely nullified the deficit, tying the game at 19-19.
During the second quarter, the teams exchanged leads almost possession by possession. It was mostly a “basket for basket” game, and Barcelona managed to secure a two-point lead with a three-pointer in the last second of the first half, leading 45-43 at halftime. Mario Hezonja delivered a masterful performance for Real Madrid, although he didn’t have many opportunities to continue his good rhythm in the second half.
The game was completely even until the middle of the third quarter when Madrid gradually began to take control on the court. In the last four minutes of the mentioned period, we witnessed numerous situations where Barcelona tried to reduce the deficit (66-63).
The fourth quarter belonged entirely to Chus Mateo’s chosen ones, who controlled the situation on the court exceptionally well. The Catalans simply didn’t have a way to stop the inspired Facundo Campazzo and his teammates, who fully deserved to win another Copa del Rey.
Facundo Campazzo was the top scorer for Real Madrid with 18 points, while Jabari Parker stood out for Barcelona with 19.
This was the 29th Copa del Rey trophy for Real Madrid, leaving their biggest rival trailing behind by two steps (27).
