Dejan Bodiroga, the president of the EuroLeague and the leading figure in the elite competition, spoke about many interesting topics in an interview with Sport Klub.
There’s a lot of talk about the next season and who will be participating in the elite competition, and who won’t. Perhaps the most controversy was sparked by Paulius Motiejunas, stating that winning the ABA League title doesn’t guarantee Crvena Zvezda a spot in the EuroLeague next season.
Prior to that, we heard about five teams vying for four available spots. Among them are Crvena Zvezda, Partizan, Valencia, Virtus, and Alba Berlin. According to this math, someone will be left out of the elite circle.
“Great atmosphere, and I think after one season, the previous one, where everyone thought the numbers were fantastic, now the boundaries have been pushed. The playoffs were even better, and here we are at the finale. We expect a great Final Four,” said Dejan Bodiroga at the beginning of the conversation.
The EuroLeague’s vision
“Two or three more interviews are waiting for me, we can talk about it tomorrow or on Sunday. Then let’s discuss the future of the EuroLeague.”
Status of Crvena Zvezda and Partizan
“The status of the EuroLeague is well known. Serbia is an important market for the EuroLeague. For many years, the champion of the ABA League has had priority when it comes to participating in the EuroLeague, but this will be a decision of all shareholders. After what Serbian clubs have done for the EuroLeague, I am optimistic about both sides. This decision will be made in the next month and will be made by all EuroLeague shareholders.”
