Dejan Bodiroga, former Serbian national team player, spoke about the country’s achievements and expectations ahead of the Olympic Games.
Dejan Bodiroga, who won three European Championships, two World Cups, Olympic silver, and European bronze with the national team, was a guest on TV Nova. He was asked about the status of Nikola Jokic, as it is still uncertain whether he will play in the Olympic Games.
“The national team achieved a great result at the World Cup last year. Coach Svetislav Pesic and all the players did a great job, and that was without Nikola Jokic. If he plays, we will be even stronger, but we should praise the guys who were at the World Cup.
Basketball is a team sport, and the team is always the most important, while individuals always stand out,” said Bodiroga, reflecting on his generation:
“As for me and my generation, wearing the national team jersey was always a privilege. Today, everyone has their own relationship with the national team. It’s a different time, there was never a question of playing or not playing for us.
We never thought in that way. I respect everyone’s wishes and opinions, but playing for the national team is the greatest thing possible. The club is one thing, and the national team is something entirely different.”
