Deni Avdija has spoken out regarding the unfortunate events in Israel while he is currently in the United States with his team, the Washington Wizards.
The son of former Crvena Zvezda basketball player Zufer Avdija described his current feelings about the conflict raging in the “Holy Land“:
“While I am here playing basketball, my thoughts constantly return to Israel. Last Saturday, terrorists from Hamas and Islamic Jihad carried out attacks in 21 places in Gaza. They mercilessly killed innocent children, women, and elderly people. Some were at home, and some were celebrating on vacation. Images of women, children, and the elderly being taken to Gaza haunt me, where many of them meet a tragic fate, which remains etched in my memory. Knowing some of the victims personally adds to my pain.
I am doing everything within my power to convey the seriousness of the situation to my teammates in Washington, my colleagues in the NBA, and the community in general. The defense of Israel is paramount. It is difficult to rid oneself of these images from Gaza, where people have lost their lives; they haunt me. I am committed to shedding light on this dark chapter. I extend my condolences to the families of those whose loved ones were killed or kidnapped. I pray for all,” said Deni Avdija.
