Dereck Lively dedicated his unexpected three-point shot to his late mother, attributing his success to her influence.
Following Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Dereck Lively spoke about his surprising three-pointer from the corner in the first quarter. He revealed that the shot was in honor of his late mother, Kathy Drysdale, who passed away earlier this year. Lively believes that she continues to guide him, helping him make every shot, whether it’s a three-pointer or a free throw.

“It was for her. She helped me make it. She’s going to help me make a lot more. She helps me make shots the free throw line, she helps me make reads. I’m just thankful for. having Luka pass me the ball in that position, I’m happy I knocked it down. Just got to be able to make the next one,” Lively said.
Dereck Lively’s mother passed away in early April after battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The loss has been an emotional challenge for the rookie, but he has honored her memory with remarkable performances in the playoffs.
