NBA insider Marc Stein has revealed that Derrick White is gearing up to negotiate a contract extension with the Boston Celtics during the offseason.
White, slated to earn $20.1 million in the final year of his current deal, is eyeing a prolonged stay with the Celtics, who face mounting financial challenges in retaining their core roster.
Renowned for his prowess on both ends of the court, White has showcased his versatility, averaging 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game this season. Notably, he garnered recognition on the All-Defensive Second Team.
The Celtics landed White in a trade with the San Antonio Spurs back in February 2022, inheriting his existing four-year, $70 million contract extension inked during his tenure with the Spurs.
A product of Colorado, White boasts a solid career stat line, with averages of 12.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. However, as he approaches 30 years of age in July, his experience and skill set remain invaluable assets for Boston’s championship aspirations.
Currently leading 2-0 against the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, the Celtics are poised to seize their first title since 2008. A win would not only break the deadlock with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most championships in franchise history but also solidify their dominance on the road, maintaining an impeccable playoff record away from home.
With Game 3 looming, a potential series-clinching win for the Celtics could further underscore their postseason supremacy, as no team has ever overturned a 3-0 series deficit in NBA history.
