Dimitris Itoudis spoke about the match Fenerbahce lost against Besiktas, a game marked by fan incidents and interruptions.
Fenerbahce was defeated with a score of 68:64, despite having several opportunities in the final moments to equalize or even take the lead. However, the match ended up being overshadowed by everything that transpired in the stands. Towards the end of the first half, at two minutes and 29 seconds, there was an interruption due to fan incidents.
Namely, apart from offensive chanting, someone threw a metal coin that hit Yam Madar in the eyebrow, leading to a ten-minute pause. Dimitris Itoudis primarily addressed this issue.
“Today, we can’t just talk about basketball. Yam Madar was hit by a coin in the eye. He could have lost an eye. Knock on wood, it didn’t happen, and I hope it never happens again. I pose a question to the Turkish Basketball Federation and the authorities: If a fan hit a referee in the eye, would the game continue?” – Dimitris Itoudis asked and continued:
“Besiktas plays in the EuroCup. Could they do this there without consequences? The person who did this is a terrorist. I disagree with my colleague Dusan Alimpijevic. He said nothing could be done about it. I think something can. The player I needed had to go to the locker room. What am I supposed to do?
And you journalists, be honest. I respect Besiktas, congratulate them on the victory, but I’ll ask the question again: Could they do this in a EuroCup game?”
