Dimitris Itoudis, the head coach of Fenerbahce, talked about Yam Madar’s transfer from Partizan to Fenerbahce and shared his perspective.
The Greek coach emphasized that the Israeli player arrived at the Istanbul team as a free agent, and discussions were held with Zeljko Obradovic as well.
“He falls into the category of players who live for basketball, love the game. It’s nice to see because he respects basketball, and it will reward him. Yam Madar has a lot of room for improvement. He worked under Zeljko Obradovic’s guidance. That makes it easier for me and the team.
He’s very explosive, reads situations well. He has enthusiasm that needs to be harnessed a bit, but he’s a very strong defensive player who always competes. He motivates himself. Defensively, he can guard any player and gives us aggression from the front line,” said Dimitris Itoudis in an interview with Meridian Sport.
The former CSKA coach revealed how discussions with Madar unfolded.
“Last summer, I told him that he was leaving a very successful team and coach, and here with us, he has strong competition at his position. He said, ‘I don’t care, whoever is there is welcome, and I will prove that I am important.’ That speaks to his character.”
Itoudis emphasized that he believed the Israeli national team player had a contract with the club in Humska.
“He was a free agent. I also spoke with Obradovic, of course, when a player who was undoubtedly interesting to us was offered. I was the first to say that we’re not interested if he’s not free. I was convinced he was under contract! That’s why I turned to Zeljko, to see what was happening there. The legal nuances were not my concern.”
