The Dominican Republic defeated Italy 87:82 in the second round of Group A of the FIBA World Cup.
The match started like a dream for the Italians, who quickly made a 12:0 run on the wings of Achille Polonara. After Nestor Garcia’s second time-out, the Dominican Republic showed a reaction and melted the deficit to only two possessions. The second part was marked by the exclusion of Gianmarco Pozzecco, and the series of the Dominican Republic in which they completely imposed their rhythm.
The Italy had no way to stop the opponent in the third quarter, which is best confirmed by even 31 received points and minus 13 before the beginning of the fourth quarter. The last two minutes and Italy’s series of 15:2 brought a bit of uncertainty into the match, but the Dominicans managed to “certify” the victory in the end.
The most effective player in the match was Andres Feliz with 24 points, while Simone Fontecchio stood out for Italy with 13.
The Dominican Republic remains undefeated in Group A with a score of 2-0, while Italy is now at half-time (1-1).
