Donatas Motiejunas, the center for Monaco, spoke after the defeat in the fifth game of the EuroLeague quarterfinals, for the “BeBasket” website.
The “Princes” were eliminated by Fenerbahce and failed to reach the Final Four as they did last year. This was emphasized by the Lithuanian.
“It’s all part of basketball. Last year we were happy, now we’re sad. Respect to Fenerbahce, they played a great game. They were calmer in the end, found open players when needed. That’s why they won. They were better than us,” began the disheartened Donatas Motiejunas.
This season, Monaco has been without a trophy. They didn’t win the French League Cup or the French Cup. They’re left only with defending the LNB Pro A, and for these failures, the former NBA player blames one thing.
“We haven’t won any trophies and we underestimated many teams, and I feel like it’s karma. We didn’t win either of the two cups in France, we didn’t make it to the Final Four. We didn’t reach any of our goals this season. It’s disappointing. I hope the guys will refocus and understand that there’s still another trophy on the line. If we don’t stay focused, we won’t succeed,” concluded Motiejunas.
