Dragan Sakota, in an interview for “Sport Klub”, as a former headcoach of Serbia commented on current situation about national team.
He who led the “Eagles” then under the name Serbia and Montenegro at the 2006 World Cup in Japan. According to him, the main problem at that time was the dismissal of players, which, among other things, is happening to an increased extent today.
“Such things happened before the 2006 World Cup in Japan. Then we had the dismissal of Nenad Krstic. Unfortunately, we have not yet found the right way to solve the problem of frequent dismissals of national team members. It would be good to get it sorted, considering we haven’t had a single title in years. We have not yet won gold under the name of Serbia” – said Dragan Sakota and continued:
“Expectations depend on the composition in which the national team plays and they are certainly higher if the team is more complete. I wouldn’t talk about my personal expectations, but I can talk about hopes. I believe that our national team can achieve a good result, maybe even win a medal. True, at this moment it is not known what to realistically expect at the upcoming Mundobasket. The lineups of the opposing teams and ours are not known yet. In any case, we have a certain quality.”
Rivals for passage to the second round when the World Cup in basketball consists of the trio of Puerto Rico, China and debutant on the planet, South Sudan. Mundobasket starts on August 25, and Serbia’s first match is against China, led by Aleksandar Djordjevic from the bench.
