Draymond Green was ejected in the second minute of the NBA game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and now the penalties for all participants in the on-court altercation are known.
First, Jaden McDaniels grabbed Klay Thompson’s jersey and attempted to throw him to the floor. In the chaos, Draymond Green grabbed Rudy Gobert by the collar for a few seconds. Thompson, Green, and McDaniels were ejected from the game, and the visiting team secured a victory with a score of 104-101.
Of the four individuals involved, Draymond Green faced the most severe consequences. The aforementioned trio was fined $25,000 each. The power forward of the Golden State Warriors received the same fine along with a suspension for five games. According to the NBA league rules, players are essentially paid per game within their contracts, so they will not be compensated for any games they miss that are not due to injury.
As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, due to his indiscretion and ejection, Draymond Green will lose $770,000. Perhaps this is not a significant concern for him at the moment, but such financial consequences are one way to deter unsportsmanlike conduct on the court
Rudy Gobert on the Incident:
“It’s a bit funny because before the game, I knew Draymond would try to get ejected since Curry isn’t playing. Every time Steph doesn’t play, he doesn’t want to play either. Steph is his guy, and he’ll do anything to get thrown out. I’m proud of myself for becoming a bigger man.
He didn’t even deserve me to put my hands on him. I was needed by the team, and I did everything to keep my composure and show that I’m not the one making the situation worse. I hope the league office will do what’s necessary because of this clownish behavior. There’s nothing more to say; it was clownish behavior,” emphasized Rudy Gobert.
