Besiktas, led by head coach Dusan Alimpijevic, suffered a defeat in the first round of the Turkish Super League, losing to Darussafaka 64-61.
The first-quarter tie was broken by Besiktas with an 8-0 run at the end, giving them a significant lead (18-13). However, Alimpijevic’s team faced a crisis in the closing moments of the first half as Darussafaka made a comeback with a 10-1 run (36-32).
The third quarter saw two scoring streaks, first from Darussafaka with a 10-0 run, followed by Besiktas with a 10-2 run (48-44). Besiktas managed to string together 15 points in the fourth quarter, taking an eight-point lead. However, a dramatic drop in performance allowed Darussafaka to capitalize with a 13-2 run, securing the victory.
Kyle Allman was the top scorer for Darussafaka with 13 points, while Jonah Mathews stood out for Besiktas with 16 points.
Dusan Alimpijevic’s team will host Tofas in the next round of the Turkish Super League, while Darussafaka will visit Bursa.
Petkim Spor started the new season of the Turkish Super League with a victory, defeating Karsiyaka 81-69 after a remarkable comeback.
Karsiyaka ended the first half with a two-possession lead (42-36), and it seemed like the guests were on their way to a victory as the favorites. However, the third quarter, which Petkim Spor won with a score of 30-12, highlighted by a 16-2 run, was crucial for the turnaround and the convincing victory for the home team.
David Efianayi led Petkim Spor to the triumph with 23 points, while Kelan Martin stood out for Karsiyaka with 17 points.
In the next round, Petkim Spor will be on the road to face Bahcesehir, while Karsiyaka will host Fenerbahce.
