Beşiktas head coach Dusan Alimpijevic touched upon the main topics regarding the Turkish club in an interview for Sportske.net.
The arrival of the Serbian coach at Besiktaş was a significant move for the club, and it has proven to be justified, given the impressive results so far, as confirmed by Dusan Alimpijevic himself.
“If we look at the beginning of both competitions and our initial aspirations, we can say that we are extremely satisfied because we hold a dominant position with Karsıyaka, sharing the third and fourth places. We are just one win behind Fenerbahce and two behind Efes in the top spot. Moreover, those two victories you mentioned, against Fenebahcer and Efes, truly gave us a boost, and our current standing in the table gives us the right to aim for success in both the Turkish Super League and the Cup.
Regarding the EuroCup, we had a fantastic start, but then there was a slump that cost us a better position in the standings. Now, until the end, we have the chance to fight for a better placement. The second spot that leads directly to the quarterfinals seems a bit far, but it’s not unattainable. We would be more than satisfied to qualify for the playoffs, as it has been our ambition from the beginning of the season.”
“There will definitely be no fusion. These headlines started because the owner of Bahcesehir became the vice president of the football section of Besiktaş. Bahcesehir, with its educational system as a university, may become sponsors of Besiktaş in the coming year, but that does not mean that these two clubs are merging. Bahcesehir, as a basketball club, will certainly survive. There is nothing about that, at least for the next year.”
One of the players who strengthened the club is Marko Simonovic, who joined from Crvena Zvezda. Head coach Alimpijevic believes that he possesses the necessary quality.
“We brought Marko to help us, and in return, we aim to assist him in getting back on track to where he once was. He has the potential, he is a young and talented guy who needs to showcase his abilities. We all know how challenging Serbian clubs can be for players who don’t immediately get the chance they deserve or don’t deserve. That’s questionable. It’s tough for every young player in those environments.
He comes as a loaned player, and at the end of the season, he returns to Crvena Zvezda. Since our deadline for the transfer to the EuroCup was January 8th or 9th, we had to react quickly because we have certain issues in the position he offers. It’s a combo four to five, five to four. It’s something we lack. I’m confident that Marko will bring a lot with his quality.”
