Dusko Vujosevic shared his thoughts and impressions about the Studentski Centar and basketball in the region in an interview with “Vijesti.”
The fact that the “Students” are on the right path was demonstrated by their victory in the ABA Super Cup. They outplayed Partizan in the final, thanks to Borna Kapusta’s three-pointer. It was their first trophy in the club’s showcase and another sign that Andrej Zakelj and his team are on the right track.
“I didn’t expect the Super Cup to turn out this way. It’s a competition below the ABA league level, but it’s an official trophy. It’s a significant achievement for the Studentski Centar to have won a trophy. On one hand, it wasn’t an expected result, and especially not realistic to beat Partizan in the final. All great coaches, and Zeljko Obradovic is certainly one of them, want to win, even in friendly matches. They want to achieve good results, not only when it’s an official competition.
On one hand, it confirms the investment and the good work of the entire club and Andrej Zakelj, who is a quality person and coach. On the other hand, the attitude towards success should be such that the person who achieved it should be the first to forget about it. It caused a bit of euphoria, which wasn’t good for the start of the season. However, it managed to be avoided to prevent unexpected losses,” said Dusko Vujosevic at the beginning of the conversation.
Success in the FIBA World Cup for Serbia is not a result of the system
“Serbia operated as a team to the maximum, achieving a great result. It’s a tremendous success. It’s neither the result of the system nor a guarantee of future success. However, this success increases the interest in basketball and encourages kids to get involved in the sport. I believe it will be a commitment to ensure that the national team is complete at the Olympics.
It’s a bigger competition, and they come from a good atmosphere. The criticism of the players who withdrew was moderate, leaving room for continued cooperation with them. If additional players who, for various reasons, couldn’t attend, join this team and come to compete as fiercely as these players did, not just to grace the event with their presence, then they have a chance,” concluded Dusko Vujosevic.
