Former NBA star Dwight Howard has taken to social media to voice his opinion on who should be the next head coach of the Detroit Pistons.
The Detroit Pistons have been a mess for the last half-decade, failing to win more than 23 games in each of the last five seasons. The Pistons have shuffled through two head coaches in that span, and despite the fact that the 1st Round of the 2024 NBA Draft came and went on Wednesday night, Detroit remains the only team in the league without a head coach at this moment. Enter Rajon Rondo?
“Man give Rajon Rondo a head coach job at Detroit I bet he turn everything around!” Dwight Howard tweeted on Wednesday night.
Rajon Rondo, with 957 career regular season games and 134 postseason appearances, boasts an impressive resume that includes three NBA Finals appearances and two championship rings. His on-court experience makes him a strong candidate for a coaching position. LeBron James recently endorsed Rondo on an episode of “Mind The Game,” stating:
“Rajon Rondo. He could do things on the go. It’s very weird to me that he’s not coaching at a high level – I think it’s because he doesn’t want to do it.”
Rondo responded to the endorsement on Instagram, contemplating whether he should start coaching at the college or professional level. Since the Lakers hired JJ Redick as their head coach, rumors have circulated about Rondo potentially joining Redick’s staff in Los Angeles.
Despite his prickly personality, which has occasionally caused friction with teammates and coaches, Rondo is widely recognized for his basketball IQ. His genius on the hardwood could make him a valuable asset as a head coach. The basketball community is eagerly awaiting the Pistons’ decision, which could potentially shape the next chapter for the storied franchise.
