Dwight Powell, the center for Canada, shared his expectations for the FIBA World Cup matchup between Canada and Slovenia.
The Canadian player spoke highly of his Dallas Mavericks teammate, Luka Doncic, emphasizing Doncic’s passion for basketball and playing for the national team.
“He is very passionate about basketball and about the national team. Every time he steps on the court in a Slovenian jersey, you can feel that he belongs there. He is very proud of where he comes from and extremely proud to be Slovenian.”
It won’t be easy for Jordi Fernandez’s team to stop the first star of the Mavericks and the Slovenian national team.
“I’m looking forward to the game against Slovenia; they are a great team, and Luka is one of the best players in the world, which I see every day in the club. He has incredible quality, and it will take a lot of effort to stop him. He is the engine of the team, but it must also be said that Slovenia has other good players around him. We met in the hotel, I’m happy for him. We are good friends, by the way. But now we have to focus on our respective national teams,” emphasized Dwight Powell.
Canada and Slovenia will meet on Wednesday. The winner of that match will face the Serbian national team in the semifinals.
