Panathinaikos coach Ergin Ataman spoke after the Greek Cup final and the game against their biggest rival, Olympiacos.
Ataman tried to continue the very successful season he has had with the ‘Greens’ and win the trophy, which would have brought his team additional confidence. However, they did not achieve that, mostly due to a poor performance in offense and only 58 points scored.
“From the beginning, I’ve been saying that tomorrow, no one will remember who won. Olympiacos played better than us, they deserved to win. Generally, we didn’t play well in this tournament, especially on offense, and tonight we played our worst game, while Olympiacos played very good defense.
The game was even until the referees called a foul on Grigonis’ three-point shot, after which I received a technical foul. There are no excuses for tonight. Olympiacos deserved to win, and they did,” said Ergin Ataman.
It wasn’t easy for him.
“I’m upset that we lost in the final. Our goal is the EuroLeague and the Greek League. We have an advantage there. We had a chance, but Sloukas and Grigonis missed all their shots. It’s not easy to face a defense like this, especially because of Fall,” concluded Ataman.
Now, there is a break due to international duties, after which Panathinaikos will continue their competition, focusing on the EuroLeague. In the next round, this team will visit Real Madrid.
