Ergin Ataman spoke at a press conference in Berlin, addressing various topics, with the main focus being his conflict with Fenerbahce fans.
He continued in the same vein, almost seamlessly:
The Turkish coach had previously promised that his team would make it to the EuroLeague Final Four, and he fulfilled that promise. Now, he has made an even bigger promise.
“It was a big challenge to fulfill that promise. The history and success of the team play an important role. I am proud of myself and the players. I hope our fans will enjoy this Final Four. What else can I promise? I know what is expected of us. They are waiting for the seventh star. I promise that we will bring the trophy to the OAKA Arena,” said Ergin Ataman.
“I also represent my country. There is no Turkish coach on the team that Sarunas Jasikevicius coaches. Basketball is global. I have a lot of respect for Fenerbahce and their fans. This is my fifth or sixth Final Four. There are not many emotions, I want to win another one, but I have respect for everyone.”
“I would like to thank everyone who supported me last night after this incident. At this press conference, I don’t want to talk about it. It was 15 provocateurs who do not represent Fenerbahce. We are here only for basketball. I respect the Fenerbahce team.”
“I don’t believe in curses. I believe in my players. This is a new era compared to the era of Zeljko Obradovic, and I am very proud that we are here. Panathinaikos is used to being first, and the goal, as I said, is the seventh star,” concluded Ataman.
