Ergin Ataman spoke at the press conference after Panathinaikos’ loss against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Game 3 of the EuroLeague quarterfinals.
Panathinaikos tried to make up for the deficit for most of the game. Although they were down by 18 points at one point, they managed to take a minimal lead in the final minute with an 11:2 run, but in the end, they were defeated 85:83. They are now trailing 2-1 in the series and are on the brink of elimination in the EuroLeague quarterfinals.
“We didn’t secure the ball in the final moments when it mattered. We made some stupid mistakes like fouling on the last possession two seconds before the end. Then we missed the shot for the win, Maccabi Tel Aviv won, and that’s it. It’s 2-1 for them,” said visibly upset Ergin Ataman, continuing:
“The game is played for 40 minutes. We had a shot for the win, we missed it, so I’m satisfied with the team’s performance even though they were down by 18 points. We didn’t play well, especially in the first half. We need to start the next game better. I don’t know what to say, it’s hard to accept, but we didn’t play good basketball at the beginning of this game.”
The Game 4 between Panathinaikos and Maccabi Tel Aviv will be played on Thursday at 8:45 PM.
