The EuroLeague, as the most prestigious European competition, will hold a two-day meeting where important decisions will be made.
Just a few days ago, the competition’s management decided that for the next 15 years, the current EuroLeague shareholders will remain at 13, meaning there will be no significant changes in terms of long-term licenses, at least for the clubs that own the competition.
The shareholders are Anadolu Efes, Fenerbahce, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Baskonia, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Zalgiris, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Milano, Bayern, Asvel, and CSKA. These clubs will decide how the EuroLeague will look in the coming season.
As for Berlin’s team and the eternal rivals from Belgrade, they will be able to compete for three-year contracts or B licenses in 2026, as previously mentioned and confirmed by Dejan Bodiroga during the EuroLeague Final Four.
Next season, 18 clubs will again compete in the elite league, so there will be no changes in the competition format. Monday and Tuesday are the days when the board will decide which teams will be granted the right to participate.
As reported by numerous media outlets, Crvena Zvezda and Partizan are ready to pay the amount necessary for a place in the EuroLeague, but in addition to the Belgrade teams, Alba Berlin, Virtus Bologna, and Valencia are also vying for the four available spots.
It is important to note that Virtus has renewed its contract with its main sponsor, Segafredo, despite the company’s previous official statement indicating they had other budgetary plans. As things stand, Segafredo will continue to be part of Virtus’s name next year.
The team from Germany’s capital reportedly does not want to pay the one million euros required for a EuroLeague spot, and Valencia has long been characterized as a team unlikely to participate in the 2024/2025 season. Many questions remain, with few answers for now.
Everything should be crystal clear by Tuesday after the board meeting, at which point the EuroLeague will finally have its list of 18 teams for the upcoming season.
