Panathinaikos has qualified for the EuroLeague Final Four after a 12-year “drought,” but they will go to Berlin with a penalty.
The Athens “Greens” faced many challenges against Maccabi Tel Aviv. The best confirmation of this is their qualification for the final tournament only after a decisive game in the famous OAKA arena. Panathinaikos advanced with an overall score of 3-2 and with incredible support from their fans.
However, they have been penalized precisely because of these same fans. The financial penalty stems from the fact that fans lit flares after the game. Additionally, a large number of them ran onto the court, which is prohibited according to EuroLeague regulations and Article 29.2.e and 29.2.i.
In any case, they had reasons to celebrate, and they will compete for the title against Real Madrid, Olympiacos, and Fenerbahce. The EuroLeague Final Four begins on May 24th and concludes two days later on May 26th, with matches for third place and then the grand final.
