The EuroLeague has announced a new rule regarding video review in disputed situations, as confirmed by Kazys Maksvytis.
Zalgiris’ head coach revealed the update in a statement to the club’s television channel, explaining that coaches will now have the opportunity to request a “challenge” twice per game.
“I visited Barcelona, where there have been many changes in the organization and management of referees. First, we met with our colleagues and other coaches, and we were informed about the upcoming rule changes,” began the Lithuanian coach, continuing:

“There aren’t any major changes. One of them is the rule allowing coaches to review video footage, and now we’ll be able to use two challenges instead of one. Referees will have fewer opportunities to stop the clock, making games shorter,” Maksvytis concluded.
Last week, EuroLeague introduced a new directive. Before each game, one of the referees will meet with the team captains on the court to discuss the game and rule application.
During these meetings, rule-related questions and all other relevant information can be discussed. Players will be reminded to play in the spirit of the rules and exhibit appropriate sportsmanship.
The new season of Europe’s premier basketball competition is set to begin on October 5th, with some exciting matchups in the first round. The schedule includes the German derby between Alba and Bayern, as well as the Greek derby where Olympiacos and Panathinaikos will face off at the OAKA arena. Serbian representatives Red Star and Partizan will start their campaigns against Asvel and Maccabi Tel Aviv, respectively.
