The EuroLeague could introduce the option of the popular “trade” among teams, confirmed Goran Sasic, the executive director of the EuroLeague Coaches Board.
In an interview with Meridian Sport, Sasic primarily addressed the frequent coaching changes in the elite competition, with a major focus on the situation that occurred with Gianmarco Pozzecco at Asvel.
“We were founded in a season that, similar to this one, showed that the responsibility is solely on the coaches, and dismissals are the only solution clubs find. This season, with seven dismissals so far, has even marked a new era with a coach being fired before the first game was played. But the positive news is that clubs are at least fulfilling their obligations to the professionals they have deprived of their jobs.
I always say that every job carries rights, obligations, and responsibilities, so coaches are fully aware that they fulfill their duties and responsibilities properly. However, clubs must fulfill theirs and respect the labor rights of coaches. I would like to emphasize that it is the same now, but it seems that ‘there is something rotten in the state of Denmark,’ as Hamlet said.”
Goran Sasic also emphasizes that EuroLeague will try to introduce the option of trades, similar to the system in the NBA.
“We have to think about how to develop something for the benefit of the sport, just as four years ago, we believed that breaking the bad practice was resolved by establishing the EuroLeague Dispute Resolution Arbitral Tribunal, and the EuroLeague Administration controls outstanding obligations.
Our conclusion is that we need to evenly distribute responsibility for results, and we will work with EuroLeague and ELPA on introducing trade principles that could be applied as early as next season, allowing clubs to exchange players.”
