Dante Exum entered in the hearts of Partizan fans in a short time, but after only one year, he left the Belgrade team.
When coach Zeljko Obradovic decided to assign the role of starting point guard to the Australian basketball player last summer, many were skeptical. It was additionally “spiced up” by Exum himself, who appeared at the preparations with extra pounds, and the announcements about a quick separation seemed more and more realistic.
Nevertheless, Obradovic believed in his choice, which turned out to be the right one. The former NBA basketball player adapted brilliantly to his new role and became one of the most dominant players in Europe.
He was among the best players of Partizan, and all that was noticed even in the strongest world league. The call came from the Dallas Mavericks, with whom Exum signed a two-year contract. After that official announcement, he officially said goodbye to Partizan on his Instagram profile:
“I don’t even know where to start. So many emotions and memories! To Partizan and the incredible fans – Thank you so much for accepting, supporting and trusting me throughout this whole season.
The ups and downs, wins and losses – I feel so grateful to have this be a part of my journey. I’m honored to have had a role in bringing back a title to this amazing city and organization! The energy and love here is like nothing else, and I will forever cherish this season.“
Exum finished the season in the EuroLeague with an average of 13.3 points and a little less than three assists, while in the ABA League he averaged 11.2 points and 3.6 assists.
