Facundo Campazzo has won his third MVP award in the Super Cup, his fifth in any tournament with Real Madrid.
Facundo Campazzo returned home to Real Madrid and Murcia, where he played for two seasons on loan, with a double award, the Super Cup title, and an individual award, marking his third MVP in this tournament, tying him at the top with Juan Carlos Navarro and Sergio Llull.
For the Argentinian, this is his fifth MVP in all competitions, only behind the mentioned Llull (ten) and ahead of Felipe Reyes (four), Walter Tavares, Luka Doncic, and Rudy Fernandez (three each).
Final versus Unicaja
“The game was tough for us, as was the entire Super Cup, with a great Unicaja team in front of us, very physical and excellent ball movement. Defense was key, defending well and rebounding. As a team, we supported each other and showed bravery when needed,” said Facundo Campazzo.
Warm reception in Murcia
“The fact that the tournament was here in Murcia has a special flavor, for the two years I played in this city, for the two years I spent here, where there were more things than just sports, since I left with friends and left a club that tried incredibly hard. I felt a lot of love from the people and words of gratitude; I’m sure it was a plus,” said the former Crvena zvezde player.
The significance of the MVP award
“Individual awards are fine for a player, but they depend solely on the collective performance. I believe that many players in this Super Cup have shown a very high level, and there are enough tools to score points. We must make improvements in our defensive quality. Today it was my turn to score more points, but we have to adapt to each opponent, and that’s what will make us better,” he added.
Return to Madrid
“I am very happy to be back, to be in Madrid, and to play in the EuroLeague and Liga Endesa. In recent years, the level has risen significantly, and anyone can beat you. Personally, I was looking forward to it. The adaptation is quite fast because I know almost everything.“
Comparison with the team from three years ago
“There are different players, although the style of play is similar. Chus Mateo’s influence is noticeable. Despite the similarities, it’s still a different team. We have to absorb what Chus conveys to us and give our all in training and games.“
