Fenerbahce defeated Besiktas on their home court by 96:88 in Game 1 of the Turkish Super League semifinal series.
After a disappointing performance at the EuroLeague Final Four, Sarunas Jasikevicius‘ team had to regroup and quickly shift focus to the domestic championship.
Dusan Alimpijevic’s team managed to keep pace with the favored Fenerbahce in the first quarter, which ended tied at 23:23. However, the host stepped up in the second quarter and pulled ahead to 56:48 by halftime.
The third quarter was much less efficient than the previous two, but Fenerbahce maintained their dominance, leading 78:65 by the end of the quarter, effectively securing the win. The visiting team attempted a comeback in the final 10 minutes but failed to pose a serious threat, allowing Nick Calathes and his teammates to take the lead in the series.
Serbian representative Marko Guduric suffered an injury in the final quarter, forcing him to leave the game and head directly to the locker room. Towards the end of the game, Dusan Alimpijevic was ejected from the court due to two technical fouls.
Nigel Hayes-Davis had an outstanding game for the home team, scoring 29 points, followed by Scottie Wilbekin with 18 points. Sehmus Hazer also contributed with 13 points. In the losing team, Derek Needham was the top scorer with 24 points, while Yigit Arslan added 14 points.
The second game of this series will be played on Saturday at 19:30, once again hosted by Fenerbahce.
